Ford Hot Lap Shelby GT350 Like It Was Meant To be Driven

It’s short but sweet.

Ford takes the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 to the track for some serious thrashing in what may be the most “hot lap” video we’ve ever seen. Many of us are still waiting at home, keeping our track cars safe, or working on them (Maybe you’re the only one, as I don’t have any track cars, sadly). But Ford seems to be taking advantage of a clear schedule at Virginia International Raceway. It’s a good thing that the track has a professional driver.

The Shelby GT350 immediately starts to take on left- and right-hand corners at second speed before moving up onto an uphill run to another set of corners, which can be taken with what is basically a straight line. Ford also uses a lot to blur the track signage and brand of racing gloves, which you’ll notice. It was obvious that the car was VIR because of the blurring of the billboard from Nissan as it made its way uphill. Although we couldn’t see the layout, it was certainly a fast lap for Shelby GT350.

One point we could see the digital speedometer reaching 138 mph on the Snake section. The driver was still using the throttle with slight inputs to increase speed. We never saw the entire lap, or even a Ford official time. The Shelby GT350 is a track-ready weapon if it’s handled correctly.

The Shelby GT350’s flat-plane 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 produces 526 horsepower (392kW) and 429lb-ft (582Nm) of torque. The rear wheels are powered by a six-speed manual transmission.
