Ford Mustang EcoBoost Now Allows You to Do Line Lock Burnouts

All 2018 Mustangs can have the line-lock feature, even the GT.

Ford’s highly-touted feature line lock was only available to the Mustang GT. However, the company will be releasing it across its entire pony car lineup in 2018. Line lock will be available on both EcoBoost-powered Mustangs and the Mustang GT.

The system is designed for drag racing and can only be used on the track (even though it could invalidate your warranty). It locks the front brakes so the driver can spin their rear tires for up 15 seconds. This feature would allow drag racers to warm up their tires before launching… but we are sure it will be used elsewhere.

Ford’s new 10-speed auto or the standard six speed manual can be paired with line lock. To activate line lock, users must scroll through Track Apps on models with 12-inch digital instrument displays. A new animation, “video-game-like”, will display on the screen. It shows a spinning alloy emitting smoke that indicates when it is activated.

Vaughn Gittin Jr., Formula Drift Champion, stated that “burnouts never get old,” and added that he was amazed to see the EcoBoost Mustang produce 15 seconds of fury. These are some of the most amazing things Ford does.

The 2018 Ford Mustang will be available in dealerships by the end of this year. There is no word yet on pricing, but Ford says the 5.0-liter V8 on the GT has been “thoroughly revised” and will be stronger than any Mustang GT before.
