Ford gives a fascinating look at the future of racing as the world prepares to race at Daytona 2022 Rolex 24. The Mustang GT3 is currently in development and will compete with IMSA in the 2024 racing season. The car is shown under a cover in one image, but 2024 being its racing debut means that the Mustang GT3 will likely be based on the next generation pony car. This could be the official teaser image for the seventh-generation Ford Mustang.
Mark Rushbrook, Ford Performance Motorsports Global Director, stated that Mustang was designed to race. We have 58 years of endurance racing history, including NASCAR and Australian Supercars, and we’re ready to take Mustang to the next stage of global performance.
Ford has partnered with Multimatic to bring the new Mustang GT3 to life. M-Sport UK has also joined the team to construct the naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote-V8 race car will use. The engine, which is race-specific, will power the rear wheels via a rear-mounted transaxle. The car will also have a Short-Long Arm suspension at each corner.
Ford will sponsor two GT3 cars in IMSA, with factory backing. The company will produce 20 cars for customer-run teams within the first two year to meet homologation standards. Ford will continue its Mustang GT4 racing program with customers and plans to unveil a new Mustang GT4 car for the 2023 racing season.
Rushbrook stated, “It’s important for us to continue supporting the Mustang GT4 effort.” “We’ve enjoyed a lot success here and in Europe with our current Mustang GT4, so we are excited to be able to offer our customers a brand new car to compete in the GT4 category beginning next season. We will have more information on this in the near future.
Since 2016, the current race-spec GT4 is available, just a few years after the sixth-generation Mustang was launched. A new GT4 car is expected to be available for 2023, and it will likely be based on the seventh-generation Mustang. The next-generation Mustang could debut in just one year.
