A few models of the more traditional types also received five-star ratings.
The Ford Mustang E was awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Top Safety Pick Award. Now, the electric crossover has been given a new high-star safety rating. During its most recent series of European crash tests, Euro NCAP awarded the Mustang EV five stars.
The Hyundaiioniq 5 also received the highest rating. The Mustang Mach-E’s standard safety equipment impressed safety experts. It includes a central airbag, a deployable hood for pedestrian protection and several advanced driver assistance systems. The passenger compartment of the Mach-E was stable in crash tests, Euro NCAP notes. Both the driver and the passenger were protected by the dummies numbers.
Three Hyundai models participated in the Euro NCAP test round. The all-electric Ioniq 5 achieved five stars from the safety group for its overall safety performance. The Tucson, however, only cleared the Safety Assist hurdle to reach five-star status. However, that was enough to give the crossover the same five star rating as the electric model. The Bayon scored only four stars out of five, primarily due to the absence of a central airbag.
Euro NCAP also tested the Toyota Yaris Cross, but they partnered with ANCAP because Australia and Europe are the main markets for the small crossover. Five-star ratings were given to the Japanese model with both gasoline and electric powertrains. The safety organization also gave five-star ratings to the Ford Transit and Transit Custom, along with the Volvo XC40 recharge and Volkswagen Tiguan PHEV.
