Although the patent was granted last November 3, 2020 it just became public. The USPTO document explains that the system begins with a user-initiated command via a remote control either inside or outside the vehicle.

The engine will respond to this input by revving to a preset peak speed, revving profile and/or pattern. You can adjust the exhaust tuning to achieve the desired engine revving sound, whether the vehicle’s off or idling.

Patent states that the engine can be revved in accordance with user-selected parameters at different distances from vehicle.

The vehicle in the illustration is a Mustang, . But Ford envisions that the remote-controlled engine revving system could also be used to power electric vehicles.

According to the patent, the engine revving sound can be produced through the vehicle’s sound system. This is possible without the need for an additional component.
