Ford Puma ST Spied Testing WIth Hybrid Powertrain

The Puma ST is a powerful and beautiful car.

These spy photos from the Nurburgring suggest that a hybrid Ford Puma ST is on the horizon. Although the crossover is almost identical to the current model, the yellow sticker at the rear window indicates that the powertrain is electrified.

Details about the hybrid Puma ST setup are not yet available. According to our spy, the crossover could be equipped with an electric-assist version of the

Current model’s turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine . The current mill produces 197 horsepower (147 Kilowatts) as well as 214 pound-feet (229 Newton-meters) or 236 Lb-ft (312 Nm) with overboost. Current Puma ST can reach speeds of 62 miles an hour (100 km per hour) in just 6.7 seconds. The maximum speed is 137 mph (220 km/h).

We expect Ford to make design changes to the Puma ST Hybrid hybrid, although it is not visible here. A different wheel-and tire package or body graphics would suffice.

The 2022 World Rally Championship will see a hybrid Ford Puma compete. It’s therefore logical to have a road-going version. This is the “win on Sunday, sale on Monday” strategy.

Puma’s rally car will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter turbocharged motor that runs on biofuel. The electric motor will provide 134 horsepower (100 kW) more power and a 3.9-kilowatt-hour of battery storage.

Mark Rushbrook, global director for Ford Performance, stated that “The M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 will test hybrid power and show that the technology can deliver thrilling performance.”

The regular Puma already features an electrified powertrain that offers a mild-hybrid, 1.0-liter engine. It produces a mere 125 horsepower (93 kW). A seven-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox is also available. An optional adaptive cruise control system can be added to the car with stop-and go functionality.
