Ford Ranger Drag Races Super Duty Tromor, Why Not?

Drag racing is always fun.

The Ford Ranger is back in U.S. action, and Ford now offers a wide variety of trucks. Although it is Ford’s smallest truck, it still has four doors and a large towing capacity. It also offers plenty of off-road capabilities for its segment. It’s not Ford’s biggest truck. This is the F250 Tremor, an off-road-ready Super Duty pickup with a powerful 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine V8 that produces 1,050 pound-feet (1.423 Newton-meters). This is three times the torque of the Ranger, however, the Ranger’s weight could be an advantage in drag racing.

The Fast Lane Truck Youtube channel pitted both trucks against each other in drag races to see which one is faster. The Ranger has more power but the Tremor is heavier. The Ranger takes an early lead in the first race, but the Tremor’s incredible torque pulls the Ranger in and passes it. Both trucks reach the finish line with the Tremor just beating the Ranger. The Tremor wins again in the second race.

The Tremor’s V8 produces 475 horsepower (354kW), while the Ranger’s EcoBoost four-cylinder of 2.3-liters makes 270 hp (1201 kW) and 310lb-ft (442 Nm) respectively. The Ford 10-speed automatic gearbox pairs both engines. This extra power is useless if the truck has to haul more. That’s why the Super Duty drag race didn’t win.

Although these drag races may seem meaningless, they are still entertaining to watch. There are some surprises, but the Ranger’s ability keep the race close is admirable. We know that the huge size difference is more than weight. The two serve different purposes.
