Canada recently filed Thunder trademarks for Ford’s three trucks.

Ford already offers the F-150 Lightning but what about the Thunder? According to Canadian trademark filings, that could be possible. Ford’s full-size pickup truck may be next.

Three trademarks were filed by the Dearborn-based company for the Thunder name. It’s true, there are one for every truck Ford offers. This could mean that an F-150 Thunder and Maverick Thunder are on the horizon, as well as Ranger Thunder.

The Ranger Thunder is a familiar name because Ford has already produced one. The limited-edition Ranger Thunder was made available for European customers in 2020. There were 4,500 of them. The Thunder was a hybrid of a Ranger Raptorand Ranger Wildtrak. It featured the Raptor’s twin-turbocharged, 2.0-liter diesel four cylinder engine and styling cues taken from the wild Wildtrak. The Ranger Thunder was distinguished by its gray exterior and black trim. also featured Thunder logos. The interior was finished with Thunder branding and red contrast stitching.

We have no trademark filings at this time and they are not listed with Canada. Automakers often file trademarks to protect their brands and names for future use. Ford has previously offered a Ranger Thunder, which gives more credence that something is actually happening with these trims.

A Maverick Thunder could be a larger version of the small truck that is geared towards off-roading. This would be a new concept in the Maverick universe, but it’s not as easy with the F150. Ford already has several F-Series trims with rugged ambience. So where would the F-150 Thunder fit? Thunder, if Dearborn executives decide to make an off-road version the electric Lightning. But is it only for Canada?

We’ll be watching the Blue Oval trademarks for Thunder, but we won’t know until then.
