Ford Super Duty Tremor offers Integrated 12,000 Pound Winch

Warn winches can be ordered factory- or dealer-installed.

An upgrade that truck owners love is to add an aftermarket winch to their burly pickups. Ford wants to make some money by selling a winch directly from the manufacturer. Only one catch: you must purchase a Super Duty Tremor in order to obtain it.

Warn manufactures the winch. Technically speaking, Ford Performance offers it. The Tremor can be installed behind the front bumper as an option or a factory-installed option. Ford claims that the Tremor was designed with crash safety in mind and optimized airflow to its engine. It can be controlled wirelessly with a remote control and has a capacity of 12,000 pounds.

Ron Meredith (Ford truck vehicle personalization planning manager), stated that the winch was developed in collaboration with Warn to meet Built Ford Tough truck specifications for the new F-Series Super Duty. “Having a winch that meets our Built Ford Tough standards allows our Super Duty customers to expand their truck’s capabilities at work and on the trails.”

However, a well-integrated winch comes with a cost. It’s listed by Ford as a $3,000 option, regardless of whether it’s installed at the dealership or factory. This is a significant premium for standalone Warn winches with similar capabilities, but the factory item can be incorporated into vehicle financing. It is available for all Tremor models, regardless of engine choice. Ford will offer the winch starting in 2020.
