Ford Tourneo Custom Electric van Teased for Europe, Debuts May 9,

Five electric commercial vehicles will be available in Europe from the Blue Oval by 2024.

Ford had announced in February 2021 that it would go electric-only for Europe’s passenger cars portfolio by the end 2020. Ford also stated that PHEVs and electric vehicles would account for half of its commercial vehicle sales by 2030. It is important to increase both the lineups and make them more competitive by 2024. The Mustang Mach-E, a passenger vehicle crossover, will be joined by the electric Puma crossover and other “medium-size”, “sport” crossovers in the next few years.

The commercial lineup will also be expanded to include five electric vehicles: Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier as well as Transit Custom, Transit Custom, Tourneo Custom and the big-boy ETransit. The Blue Oval’s Ford Pro arm, responsible for all things commercial, has revealed a zero-emissions workhorse that will be arriving by 2024. The light signature indicates that we are dealing with the Tourneo Custom, even though its name has not been revealed.

Ford will not only eliminate the combustion engine by then but will also strive to achieve carbon neutrality in its factories and all logistics and supplier operations.

Two of Ford’s upcoming passenger-oriented EVs, however, will be able to ride on the MEB platform by Volkswagen. This won’t happen with the electric Tourneo Custom. We know that the electric Tourneo Custom will be breaking cover on May 9, but details about this multi-purpose vehicle are yet to be revealed. It will be available in Europe by 2023. The electric version of the platform that was used to make the combustion-engined versions is expected to transport it.

The Tourneo Custom EV follows the E-Transit. It went into production last month. Transit Custom will follow the E-Transit next year, with the Transit Courier (and Tourneo Courier) earmarked for a 2024 launch.

Ford’s ultimate goal in electrification on the Old Continent is to sell electric passenger and commercial cars by 2035. Ford will not only eliminate the combustion engine by then but will also strive to achieve carbon neutrality in its factories and all logistics and supplier operations.
