This could be the Mustang’s new black accent package.

Ford filed trademarks around the globe last week in search of a new Mustang. The name Mustang Dark Horse was trademarked by the Blue Oval, which could become the brand name for the new Black Accent Package that the company is developing for the Mustang.

The Blue Oval tweeted a single image of a Mustang with a black accent package. To solicit names for the new pack, the company also held a contest.

According to the contest page, Ford received more submissions. It was trademarked by Ford in the US, Canada and the European Union. New Zealand and Australia also received submissions. This trim is a great example of Ford covering all bases. This isn’t Ford’s first black accent package for the S550 Mustang.

Ford offered the Stealth Package to the Mustang in 2022. This included the two-door black badge, Ebony-Black 19-inch wheels and dark side mirror caps. Ford made even more interior improvements, including illuminated sill plates and a matte/gloss-black finish for the instrument badge.

Ford offered the package for the EcoBoost variant with 310 horsepower (231kW), but it is not clear if Ford will offer the Dark Horse package for the V8-powered GT. The GT wears a GT badge between its taillights. However, the teaser image featured a running pony badge.

However, the tweet revealed that the car would receive black badges as well as black-painted aluminum wheels. Ford will likely make some visual improvements inside and outside, but not too much. We are not sure what we can expect from Ford, but last year’s Stealth Package gives us a good idea.

The current-generation Mustang is nearing its end, and the next-gen Mustang has been spotted on public roads. Ford will not release the new Mustang until April 17, 2023. However, it appears that Ford still has one special Mustang available for public testing before the switchover.
