This is not the final form.
Team Z Motorsports, Detroit, is keeping hot-rodding alive but with a modern twist. The team will take the Foxbody Mustang, Ford’s smallest car, and install it with Ford’s all-new 7.3-liter GodzillaV8. It is not difficult to fit a big engine into a small car, but the new ingredients make it interesting. The 7.3-liter GodzillaV8 is showing great potential.
Brian Wolfe, a Mustang racer for over 30 years, is an ex-engineer at Ford and was once the head of Ford Racing Technology. Dave Zimmerman, the owner of Team Z Motorsports, helped Wolfe to tackle his latest project. He has a deep understanding of Ford engineering and a passion for building race cars. It’s a great way for Ford to show off their new engine, the F-250.
Ford’s Godzilla V8 is a 7.3-liter pushrod V8 engine that is designed to last for extended periods of intensive use in a work vehicle. Since the Godzilla V8 is over-engineered, this robust design makes it the ideal platform for building a performance engine. The F-250’s Godzilla V8 can produce 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft torque.
The 7.3 made around 600 horsepower on the Team Z Motorsports bench dyno. The Godzilla V8 produced 790 horsepower in its most recent iteration, which included a complete build for an eventual boosted application. We are excited to see the engine’s power output when it is paired with the Whipple 3.0-liter supercharger. It’s estimated to produce around 1600 horsepower, which is nearly four times the factory rating.
