It’s not uncommon to leave home and live a nomadic life in the US, particularly during recessions and for many years afterwards.
This is the main topic of Nomadland 2020 American drama film. It was directed and edited by Chloe Zhao, who has been critically acclaimed. It is based upon a 2017 non-fictional book Nomadland by Jessica Bruder.
Frances McDormand is best known for her role in Fargo. She plays Fern, a former Amazon employee who sells her belongings to pay her husband’s funeral. Vanguarda was a 2001 Ford Econoline van that she purchased to make it a motorhome. Her journey began as a nomadic nomad.
McDormand takes us on a tour through Vanguard, and the conversions that were made to it. He also shows practical applications such as a stove in the living area so you don’t need to cook outside. The attached video is embedded above.
Living the van lifestyle may seem like adventure to some, but Vanguard’s premise reflects survival and the many challenges that it brings. Without their motorhomes, none of this would be possible.
Nomadland’s deep plot and outstanding acting have won it many accolades, including the People’s Choice Award from the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Best Motion Picture – Drama award at the Golden Globe Awards. The film is up for nominations for six Academy Awards in April: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress, Best Adapted Filmplay, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing.
Nomadland made its world premiere at Venice Flim Festival, September 11, 2020. It has grossed $2.5 million worldwide as of March 10, 2021. It is currently streaming on Hulu.
