This is the car that we have always wanted. We want it so badly.
You know that feeling you get when you find something you’ve never seen before but that is completely new to you? We felt that same emotion when we discovered the Frankenstein Benz. It was one of the most wild and unusual tuning projects we have ever seen. It is now complete, we are pleased to say.
The original photo shows the beginning of the process to attach a mid-1980s 190E body to an engine, transmission and complete drivetrain for a modern C63AMG sedan. It dates back from October 9 th 2013. It took Piper Motorsport five long years to complete the car, and it was finally revealed in all its glory earlier this month. Why is it taking so long? They’ll explain.
To make a long story brief, the 190E will include the engine, transmission and entire driveline. It will also have brakes, firewall, dash, electronics, and the floor pan from C63 AMG.
The C63 was cut out of several structural parts and the wheelbase was reduced to fit the new 190E. They are then installed in the body of the classic, with minor modifications to the mounting points for the engine and transmission. The dashboard of the newer car fits almost perfectly in the 190E’s cabin.
As you can see in the attached gallery (163 photos), the transformation required tons of custom-built parts as well as modifications to the car’s architecture. The center console is our favorite detail. It is completely custom and cleverly hides the seven-speed automatic gearbox as well as its controls. Additionally, many components have been moved from the engine bay. These include the oil coolers and A/C condensers. The whole package hides behind a modified 190E body that looks very much like the EVO styling, with some DTM clues. Although no performance or power figures are currently available, take a few minutes to look through the huge gallery below. Trust us, it’s well worth the effort.
