The future of Frankfurt Motor Show is looking a little shady, at least according to its current format. According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, some automakers have been criticizing the current format of the Frankfurt Motor Show. This has led to some brands dropping out of the event, while others, such as BMW, have reduced their presence at the event.
These are the brands that missed this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show: Toyota and Peugeot, Citroens, Nissan, Kia, Volvo and Ferrari.

Handelsblatt reported automakers discussing how the Frankfurt Motor Show’s future concept should be centered around mobility and not new cars. It is possible to plan a tour of German cities.

The 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show’s Hottest Releases
Some companies withdrew completely from the Frankfurt auto show this year, but brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz reduced their usual space at it. Handelsblatt reports that BMW has slashed its budget and show area by nearly two-thirds, while Daimler has slashed 30 percent of its show spaces for Smart and Mercedes-Benz brands.
According to the paper, the number of exhibitors decreased by 20% this year while the area for exhibitions was reduced by 16% to 168,000 square metres.
