These LEDs are still available, but they can be activated at speeds exceeding 40 mph to provide even greater illumination.
The high-tech lamps have been made standard on the Audi R8 Plus for 2018. This means that American drivers don’t need to envy European customers who can enjoy the road-illuminating qualities offered by laser headlights. They are also available as an option on the R8. This summer, the updated models will go on sale.
Audi claims that the blue light emanating from the housing of the headlights makes it easy for people to recognize if an R8 has laser lights. For both low and high beams, the models still have LEDs. For even greater illumination, however, the lasers can be activated at speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour (64 km per hour).
Audi also has some other improvements planned for the 2018 R8 lineup, including laser lights. All models are now equipped with the firm’s smartphone interface. An Audi Sport badge, which is a signifying the brand’s newly renamed performance division replaces the Quattro emblem from the R8, while the puddle lights show “Audi Sport.”
The 2018 supercar also features minor aesthetic changes. The V10 Plus’s matte Anthracite finish has been replaced by high-gloss Anthracite Inlays. It rides on silver 19-inch split-spoke forged tires. Carbon Sigma high-gloss Inlays are now available on the V10 Plus. Customers who want a darker look can choose the Black Optic package, which includes 20-inch Y forged wheels in Anthracite and gloss black exhaust outlets. It also includes matching side blades for the standard V10 trim.
The R8’s price rises with increased standard equipment. The 2018 V10 Coupe base model retails at $166,150 (after $1250 destination), compared to $164,150 in 2017. The 2018 V10 Spyder is $178,350, compared to $176,350 in 2017. The 2018 V10 Plus Coupe is priced at $195,650, up from $1911,150 in 2017.
Audi’s laser headlights were introduced in the U.S. last summer, but only a few units were made. Only 25 units were made of the V10 Plus Special Edition special model. The Audi Exclusive upgrades included two-tone leather upholstery and an Alcantara headliner. They also had an exterior in Quantum Gray with orange stripes along the side blades. They were priced at $230,450 by the company, almost $40,000 more than standard 2017 R8V10
Plus.
