With a fastest pass time of 7.6 seconds, and the highest speed at which it can reach its maximum terminal velocity of 201 MPH. A 20-year-old Civic. With 350,000 miles.
Drag racing records have been falling like flies over the past few weeks. But this is the most amazing: A 20-year-old Honda Civic has made the fastest front-wheel-drive, stock chassis machine, clocking in at 7.61 seconds and traveling 199.45 mph (320.95 km) It also set a new speed trap record at 201 mph (323 km/h).
SpeedFactory Racing, Tacoma, Washington, assembled the car with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine that breathes through a turbo about the size of a dog. It is quite a large dog. The crankshaft motor has 1,850 horsepower (1.380 kilowatts). This crew managed to make it happen through witchcraft. This is five times more than , the most powerful 2.0-liter turbo production vehicle.
Amazingly, this power is transmitted through an H-pattern gearbox. The car has a total of 350,000 miles (5563,000 km) on its belt.
The venue for the record-breaking run was the ImportVsDomestic.com World Cup Finals at Maryland International Raceway. The crowd seemed to know what was at stake and let out a huge cheer after each Civic’s run. It beat a Pontiac Firebird V8-engined and a Nissan 240SX for good measures.
Gidi Chambo ran a 7.14 second pass last week in his AMS Performance-built stock-chassis Nissan GT-R. This is a new record for this type of car, just a week after Ekanoo racing had set the mark at 7.16 seconds. Drag racing is highly competitive. There are many records that can be claimed, as well as different types of cars competing. Somebody can claim that they have the fastest Mark 5 VW Golf GTi. They can use a modified aero chassis, standard engine block and nitrous as well as a DSG gearbox. Probably.
There are many records that can be claimed, but it is hard to determine the true front-wheel drive quarter-mile record. Can anyone enlighten us?
