G-Power BMW X5 M now at 750 hp

The 700-hp previous kit was just not enough.

Although the BMW X5 M already has 575 horsepower, tuners feel the need for more power from the biturbo 4.4 liter V8 engine. G-Power released an upgrade kit in October 2013 that increased the engine’s power to 700 hp (514kW). The tuners have increased the power to no less that 750 hp (551kW) and a staggering 723 lbft (980Nm) of torque. G-Power’s version of the X5 M has 175 hp (129 kW), and 170 lb-ft (170 Nm).

A vehicle this large, weighing in at 2,350 kg (5.180 lbs), can reach a top speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h). BMW will only be able reach this velocity after G-Power installs its stage 3 kit, priced at EUR4,400 (€4,900). The additional EUR668 ($743) will remove the stock electronic speed limiter of 155 mph.

You might be wondering where the extra power comes from. It’s due to the upgraded turbochargers and some software wizardry. The custom exhaust system is made of titanium, which weighs 23 kg (50 lbs) less than the stock one. Although the BMW X5M is not the kind of vehicle you would see on a drag strip it’s not uncommon to see them running the quarter mile in just 11.5 seconds. G-Power claims that the tuned version with stage 3 kit installed will be faster.

The tuners can also infuse more power into the V8 engine. For an additional EUR3,190 ($3,546), you can get custom downpipes and catalysts. These aftermarket accessories aren’t cheap but the X5M starts at close to $100,000 in the United States and is just shy of EUR115,000 here in Germany.
