The sport Genesis G80 could be making a comeback.
A recent interview was conducted with MotorTrend Mark Del Rosso, President and CEO of Genesis North America, stated that the Genesis G80 Sport could be back. We consider the second-generation G80 luxury sedan to be one of our top picks. Coolest cars Genesis is offering a stunning new luxury vehicle, the G80, as part of its ongoing delivery of luxurious vehicles that offer performance and refinement to match the beautiful exterior sheet metal. Genesis’ second-generation G80 represents a turning point in its design language. It is more confident than ever and has more power. The Genesis G80 had a Sport trim that delivered better performance. Customers want to see it return.
The Genesis G80 Sport first-generation shared its 3.3-liter twin turbo V6 engine with the KIA Stinger GT and Genesis G70 engines, Genesis G90, and KIA K9. The G80 Sport had 365 horsepower and 376lb-ft torque. However, it was not fast enough to be considered a serious contender to the Mercedes AMG and BMW M. It was equipped with an 8-speed manual transmission and a more aggressive exterior design than a standard G80 sedan.
The 2021 Genesis G80 will replace the previous generation’s V8 engine with a twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 that produces 375 horsepower and 391 Lb-ft. Customers will find the twin-turbo V6 engine more accessible with the new trim structure. Genesis would have to differentiate the G80 Sport trim from the regular car if they were to offer it, since it does not have exclusive rights to the twin turbo V6 engine option.
A sport Genesis G80 would make a welcome addition to the product range and be a great choice for G80 customers who enjoy driving. Genesis will introduce a G80 Sport if there is demand.
