The final product did not depart too much from these.
GMC’s Hummer EVO was revealed earlier in the week. It had been a long road before it finally arrived. Drawings and sketches are often the first impressions of a new model. When deciding the look of a vehicle, it’s easier to draw than to sketch. The design process for the Hummer was similar, with many different designs being sketched. Those designs are now available on the GM Design Instagram account, where you can see how early Hummer designs looked.
The post features several Hummer EV designs, each with their own distinct features but each one has a similar look. The similarities between the Hummer EV and the sketches are easy to see. The final product will have the same upright, chunky design, but the drawings emphasize the large, wide wheel arches. The stylized C-pillar, which extends into the bedside, is another common trait between the sketches as well as the real EV.
These sketches include hints from past Hummer models. This has been translated to the actual vehicle. The Hummer brand was a strong, gas-guzzling brand that was popular at the beginning of the 21st century. Even though the truck’s exterior is softer, it still has that rugged look. The all-electric powertrain keeps it going. GMC claims that a tri-motor model will be available, with an estimated 1,000 horsepower (746kilowatts). You will also find cool features such as Crabwalk, four-wheel steering, and more.
It is easy to forget about the complex and lengthy process of creating a new vehicle. Before you can even begin to design prototypes, or concepts, think about all the decisions that must be made, changed and approved. These sketches offer a glimpse behind the curtain of an industry that many love. However, we will always be curious about what sketches the automakers do not show us.
