Love Porsche? You can now live in one.

Although everyone knows the connection between Porsche & Volkswagen we are sure that not many people know this particular creation. Although it looks a lot like a vintage VW bus there are Porsche badges on the front and back. There is also a strange resemblance to the 356 with its large round headlights, bullet taillights, and distinctive shape. Technically, it is not a Porsche product. It is a Tempo Mikafa Sport, a curious camper that Mikafa, a German coachbuilder, built on a Tempo chassis. This was not the 1980 Ford Tempo, this was another German company which built a variety of vehicles from 1920 to the late 1970s.

This van is adorned with Porsche badges. It is the engine. A flat four-cylinder 356-spec engine was used in the original van. Mecum Auctions will transport this rare gem to its Monterey block in august. According to the description, it is one of only three vans with the Porsche engine. Hemmings provides a more detailed story about the Tempo Mikafa sport, explaining how Austin and VW engines were used in these unique creations, but only a few people chose the Porsche mill.

It appears that this particular model does not have the original 356 engine. According to the auction description, it has an unspecified Boxer four that is mounted behind the front seats. It turns the front wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. It is listed as an unrestored survivor, with its interior vanlife upfit still intact. This includes the functional bathroom and kitchenette. It is believed to be the USA’s only Sport model with a pop-up roof and VDO instruments.

Another Porsche Camping Experience

This camper is a great find for anyone who loves 1950s campers. It is also extremely rare, so there are no guarantees as to what it will fetch at auction. Mecum does not have any estimates, but Hemmings reports a similar van with an Austin motor sold for $132,000 in 2017. There’s every possibility it could be significantly higher, given that this particular example has a Porsche connection.
