Are there shades of Camaro?
For a while, we’ve been following the official GM Design Instagram account. The page offers interesting insights into the design minds behind American automaker. We have seen everything, from wild trucks through interior renderings to cool racing cars. We are still wondering if this is more than a flight of fancy. This April 21 post is no exception.
It has a Chevrolet bow tie in the grille, but it doesn’t match any Chevy vehicle. The forked corners at the headlights remind me of the Silverado 150pickup. The Chevrolet Blazer has wheel arches and narrow windows that are somewhat similar. The strange notch at the C pillar is a mystery, though it may be an extreme interpretation of the floating roof design on the Trailblazer. The grille could be a smaller version of the Equinoxdesign.
This is a section-by–section review, but it could be that there’s something more. The grille is more car-like and the high beltline almost feels too high for a crossover. This is where you need to see the connection. To help you make that connection, place your hand on the back of the rendering and let us know what you see. Congratulations if your answer is Camaro. You’re not alone in having such thoughts. The Camaro-esque grille design and narrow greenhouse exude a Camaro attitude. And those large wheels make it look like they have low-profile tires. This is just a matter of fact.
This is where the Instagram post gets even more interesting. The word future is included in the list. Could this be a concept-in-the-making? GM might be teasing a future model. Designers might be teasing a future model with design cues such as the notches at the headlights or the notched C pillar. We’ll admit it, this is a possible Camaro crossover that could compete with the Mustang E. Is this speculation too wild? Yes, but it’s possible.
