GM Survey: Corvette C8 Owners Ask About Electric Sports Car

Interesting? Yes. Yes. Absolutely.

The Chevrolet Corvette crowd, like the Porsche 911, is fiercely loyal and a purist bunch. Even something as simple as changing the headlights can cause huge debate. You can see the reactions of C8 owners from GM’s most recent survey.

The Mid Engine Corvette Forum reports that several owners received a questionnaire about their electric models, as well as options and subscriptions they may like. The survey is from GM and has received mixed reactions. This is perhaps not surprising considering the popularity of this sports car.

The forums showed a range of reactions, from those who embrace the future to those who would not touch an electric vehicle with a ten foot pole. It’s not surprising that the former is common, but it’s interesting to see Corvette owners openly considering a plug-in version their beloved sports car. These surveys were sent only to C8 owners and the sample was not large. GM asking this question suggests that they may be considering an electric Corvette in the future.

This means that the next-gen Corvette is going to be an electric vehicle. We are only two years into the C8’s lifespan. However, a hybrid is on the horizon. It is being called the Eray and has a system output of approximately 650 horsepower (485kilowatts). It might also come with all-wheel-drive. If this is a success, it could make the idea for an all-electric Corvette more appealing to its die-hard fans.

It is still in early stages of production for the C8 Corvette. This means that there is still plenty of space for high-performance models and other special editions. This generation could be called the most innovative in the past 40 years. The C8 could even serve as a test bed for future performance vehicle technologies, given the current state of things and the speed at which they are being developed.
