Single Cab bodies are all about getting the job done and not hauling around the family.
GMC is busy developing the next generation Sierra HD pickups. These photos capture GMC testing the 2500 Single Cab variant. These photos are a great accompaniment to the spy photos of 2500 HD Crew Cab (see gallery below).
The test mule is covered in heavy camouflage, which does an excellent job hiding the pickup’s face. The spy photos and what is visible here suggest that the 2500 borrows heavily from the Sierra 15. Both models feature large grilles with lots of chrome and vertically-oriented headlights. The concealment makes it difficult to see the exterior. Even the hiding of the handy MultiPro Tailgate on the 2500 is hidden. The 1500 has a separate section that can be folded for easy access to the bed.
The spy photographer reported seeing the Denali emblem embossed on the seats. This is an interesting twist. The luxury-oriented Denali trim, which is available only on the Sierra 2500 with a four-door Crew Cab body and not the Single Cab, is currently limited to the Sierra 2500. GMC could offer an up-level version of the two-door Sierra 2500 with the Crew Cab body, or the test mule might just have those seats.
Unfortunately, there are not many photos of the interior. The 2500 could use some tech from the 1500 Denali, such as an 8-inch infotainment screen, multicolor head-up display and backup camera in rearview mirror.
The future HD models will have a different powertrain, although upgrades to improve hauling capability are possible. The base engine will likely remain a gas-powered 6.0-liter V8. Buyers will be able to potentially upgrade to a diesel-fueled, 6.6-liter V8.
The 2019 debut of the Sierra HD is expected sometime in 2019, while the Chevrolet Silverado HD will be available at the same time.
