The 2022 MY Sierra is short-lived, but it will have many upgrades.
We learned last week that the GMC Sierra will receive a 2022 model year. This information was obtained from GM–Trucks.com. It stated that the truck would be given the 2022 GMC Sierra Limited title to reflect the shorter lifecycle. There are at least some other surprises for the luxury pickup.
Another part of the message was sent to GMC dealers by the same source. It contained information about the launch of the truck for the mid-model year 2022. Although there is no rule, it seems that the mid-model year 2022 MY will most likely refer to the third quarter in the calendar 2021. Although it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact launch date, this report should indicate that it will be before 2021.
A semi-autonomous driving technology that is now available on the Sierra is another interesting aspect. GM Trucks reports that the new luxury truck will be available with an upgraded version GM’s Super Cruise self driving function and the ability to tow a trailer. According to the GMC dealers, this is what the letter said:
“Later, in the 2022 model-year, there will be an updated Sierra. It will feature significant upgrades in design, capability, and technology. This includes the introduction of the next generation Super Cruise1 driver assist feature that allows you to tow a trailer on roads compatible with your vehicle.
These early leaks look very promising, and we’re eager to hear more about the 2022 Sierra’s upgrades. We won’t have long to wait to see the final product as we’ve already seen preproduction prototypes on public roads.
