The tires were made by Goodyear from 1996 to 2003.
Goodyear is recalling almost 175,000 tires because they could have tread separation. It’s possible that it will be difficult to fix the problem. The tires were manufactured by Goodyear from 1996 to 2003 and were used primarily on trucks and RVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that these tires have a higher failure rate when used on motorhomes than other tires.
G159 tires sized 275/70R22.5 are affected by the recall. NHTSA encourages RV owners with 22.5 inch rims to inspect their tires. However, the agency asks anyone renting or using a motorhome with 22.5 inch tires to verify that the vehicle isn’t using the recalled rubber. Although production may have stopped 20 years ago, the NHTSA warns that these tires are still available for purchase online.
The agency stated that Goodyear dealers would replace tires on recreational vehicles at no cost. Owners will also receive a $60 voucher for weighing their vehicles. 500 dollars will be given to people who have tires that are not fitted on a recreational vehicle. The recall notification has not been issued by the company.
This recall is the result of an NHTSA investigation that was opened in 2017, when court documents were received about tire failures on motorhomes. The NTHSA stated at the time that “The large number of these claims suggests the failures may be due to a safety-related defect.”
Tread separation can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and possibly crash. A tire blowout can be fatal at highway speeds, especially if the vehicle is large enough to cause an accident .
Poor-quality tires can cause serious accidents and are an essential safety component for a car. NHTSA points out that some owners may have tires left over as spares. They should inspect them.
