Don’t be afraid of stone chips.

It’s been a great summer if you own a Ford F-150, or are planning to buy one in the near future. A few dealers installed visual and speed packages earlier in the year. Then, last week, America’s favorite truck received a factory lifting kit. Hyperformance, a company that makes windshields for F-150s, has announced a partnership to Corning. It’s nothing too remarkable so far. Keep going.

Hyperformance has now on sale with a Gorilla Glass windshield starting at $899,95 It’s the same glass that you see on your smartphone’s screen and is virtually indestructible. This is the perfect upgrade for F-150, considering that the most popular nameplate in America is used as a workhorse. It’s susceptible to rock chips and cracks.

That’s quite a price for a windshield. However, Roadshow points out that if your truck’s standard windshield needs to be replaced more than once, the $900 price starting point (without installation) becomes reasonable. Hyperformance offers a 2-year warranty on breakage.

Corning now distributes the sixth generation of Gorilla Glass. It is lighter, thinner, and more durable than its predecessors. This sheet glass is used primarily as a covering glass for mobile electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, portable media players, laptops, portable computer displays and television screens. It is made in Kentucky, South Korea and Taiwan.
