The MG6 will also be manufactured at MG’s Birmingham plant in the UK. The MG6 5-door hatch will be available with either a 1.8 liter engine with 133 bhp, or a 1.8 turbo engine with 160 bhp.
MG is back as a volume carmaker.
Today, the British brand presented its newest model, the MG6 at the Guangzhou Auto Show.
We were unable to release so many details that we could quote the complete description of the model in the press release.
“The MG6 model is a five-seat fastback with five seats. It was designed to reflect the MG brand’s character and offer something new to the volume market.”
The MG6 could be powered either by a 1.8 liter four-banger producing 133 bhp (135 lbft) and 183 Nm (135 lbft) or a 1.8 liter turbocharged engine producing 160 bhp (158 lbft) of torque. It’s very volume-y stuff in either case.
Next month, the MG6 will be produced at a new MG factory in Lingang. The storied British automaker plans to also produce the MG6 in the UK. Production is expected to start in late 2010, at its Birmingham plant.
Guy Jones, director sales and marketing at MG Motor UK stated that “This is a landmark day for the iconic MG branding and for the UK automobile industry.” Will there be enough buyers to restore some pride in British motoring?
