He helps put a 16-valve engine into a first-gen VW GTI.
Edd China is back working on cars. He was previously the mechanic for Wheeler Dealers. Now he’s the star on Edd China’s Garage Revival. It’s a good episode.
China meets someone with a semi-finished project car, and helps them complete it. He travels to Norway in this episode to help with the modification of a first-gen Volkswagen GTI. The owner is trying to fit a 16-valve engine in his car. However, the Norwegian authorities aren’t keen on engine swaps.
The loophole in the case meant that the owner was fortunate. VW tuner Oettinger constructed a series of first-gen GTIs using a 16-valve motor. VW of France then went through the certification process to make it a production vehicle. The owner can now install the stronger engine provided he or China install rear disc brakes, just like the Oettinger cars. China later demonstrates the work involved in this conversion.
China helps with the engine swap and also reinstalls the headliner on the GTI. They also restore the wheels and powder coat them. The vintage VW is now ready to glide through Norway’s snowy roads.
China’s segments have always been the best Wheeler Dealers and this new show places even more emphasis on his wrenching skills. He is also quiet confident in whatever project he’s working on.
According to the YouTube description, “Your favorite mechanic Edd China, Wheeler dealers is back with what will hopefully be a new series.” It’s unclear if this is a pilot to generate interest in making a full series of Edd China’s Garage Revival or if there are other episodes. We would watch another one based on this episode.
