Hellcat-Swapped Mazda MX-5 Makes a Comeback in Its Own Tire Smoke

This Miata is a sucker for tires.

This car might be familiar to regular Motor1.com readers. It’s a Mazda MX-5 Miata with a 6.2-liter Hellcat engine under the hood. Although the motor is too large to fit under the Miata’s roof, this video shows that it can fit within the Mazda’s engine bay. This is assuming that there aren’t any modifications needed to fit the supercharged motor in there.

KARR YouTube videos have documented the build process of this bizarre engine swap. However, the latest clip from Florida Car Culture shows what the final result looks like. What can you say that hasn’t been said? A 707-horsepower Miata can easily obliterate tires with reckless abandon. However, it is not as powerful as a semi-truck engine, which can still atomize rubber with relative ease.Hellcat-Swapped Mazda MX-5 Makes a Comeback in Its Own Tire Smoke

The smoking demonstration was held at Bradenton Motorsports Park, Florida. We believe this burnout demonstration was the FrankenMiata’s first appearance. Although the smoke show begins slowly, the driver then hands the controls over to Cleetus McFarland, a YouTube car expert and engine swapper. The driver doesn’t take his foot off the accelerator lightly, and we aren’t sure if the smoke coming from the engine bay is residual tire smoke, or something more serious.

MX-5 engine swaps have been around for a while. People have changed the engine size of the Miata’s engines over the years. The 6.2-liter Hellcat produces six times as much power as a standard Miata. We hope that the car’s builder has plenty of spare tires.
