Sir Isaac Newton? He is a name you have never heard of.
How fast can a Jeep Grand Cherokee go faster than any other production car? You’ll notice that we didn’t say any production car. Instead, we said Grand Cherokee Trackhawk which was a hundredth of a second faster than the factory-built muscle car. Hennessey you have completely failed. For the record, that was great sarcasm.
This is the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a massive SUV that weighs in at over 5,300 pounds (2.404 kilograms). It has five seats and enough cargo space to take you on a week-long cross country camping trip. It can also be hauled to the track with a set drag radials, which is a great advantage. This is part of the answer to the question. Here’s the second: The Hellcat V8 engine produces 1,200 horsepower (895kilowatts) in the Hennessey-tuned Jeep.
It’s not as easy as just cranking up the boost to get that much power out of the engine. Hennessey replaces the entire internal components, including the connecting rods and pistons. Porting is done to the cylinder heads. The cylinder heads are ported. An even larger supercharger is added. A 109-octane race fuel is added. The engine calibration is changed and then is increased to 22 pounds. Yikes.
Hennessey adds a special system that disables the Jeep’s all wheel-drive to help drivers get maximum grip off the track. The run is completed with all-wheel drive.
The Trackhawk still had some slippage despite the 2.5 tons of Jeep grippy rubber at the corners and the track being prepared. It still managed to hit 60 mph in 1.5 seconds and a 60-foot time of 60 feet in 2.3 seconds. At the end of the run the Jeep’s speedometer read 150 mph, but the official speed through the trap is 145.49.
Hennessey can sell you an HPE1200 Trackhawk SUV for a cool $179,000. You’d better hurry, as only 24 of these vehicles are currently in production.
