Hennessey Planning 1,000-HP Hellephant Swap For Ram TRX, Durango SRT

It is impossible to have too much.

Hennessey Performance is a fan of injecting huge power into anything that has four wheels. Already, the Texas tuner has plans to produce a 1,000-horsepower (or 746-watt) version the Ram TRX. This is the Hennessey mammoth that was announced earlier in the year. Hennessey has a new plan for those who can’t handle the tiny Hellcat V8 at 6.2 liters. Can you say 426 Hemi

Hennessey prefers to call it Hellephant Madness. This is the title of a new video by the tuner, announcing the plan. However, the engine swap does not stop at the TRX. John Hennessey takes us through the Mammoth upgrade production schedule before revealing a Hellephant V8 crate engine , and a Dodge Durango RT. Hennessey is Hennessey and the company purchased two Hellephant engines.

In-house parts company Mopar Stellantis launched the Hellephant engine crate engine in 2018. It’s a direct homage to the 426 Hemi V8 which powered many muscle cars built by Chrysler-division brands in the classic muscle car era. Although the modern version boasts 1,000 horsepower right out of the box, it does have a supercharger. Mopar describes the engine as being “designed for installation in pre-1976 street or off-road vehicles.” We don’t know how easy it will be to plug-and-play for the Durango and TRX, but we assume that this is for emission purposes.

Hennessey claims that the swaps will take place and it appears like the project could be made into a series. Now the real question is: Which vehicle should be first? TRX is our bet because TRX enthusiasts can’t seem to get enough of this insane supertruck. However, the Durango SRT is not being discussed by most people, so it’s important to remember that there are some benefits to leading rather than following.
