High-Performance Tire Track Testing Compares Grip With Treadwear

Which tire is the best?

Is a lower treadwear tire more efficient at turning around a track? It’s not easy, according to recent testing by YouTuber Tyre Review. While tires aren’t the most exciting component of your car, they are extremely important. No matter how well your suspension setup or your ECU tune, bad tires can cause problems with grip. Do lower treadwear ratings translate to slower lap times?

Before we get into the testing results, let’s first define tire treadwear ratings. Treadwear is a rating required by the government that tells consumers how quickly a tire will wear. The tire’s life expectancy is determined by how much treadwear the tire has. A 600 treadwear rating tire will last twice as long than a 300-tread wear rating tire. What does the treadwear rating have to do with on-track grip or performance?
