Honda Civic goes anime in new ads with Giant Robot Series Evangelion

The Civic looks like an earth-defending robot.

The Honda Civic is the new ad campaign for Japan. This new series of ads was created by the automaker in partnership with the animated series Neon Genesis Evangelion. is a promotional Web site which highlights the main features of the mecha and shows how they apply to the automobile.

Neon Genesis Evangelion tells the story of a group teenagers who use giant robots to protect the planet from giant monsters. It’s a brief summary, however. It then includes references to Christianity and teenage angst. The ending can require multiple viewings to fully understand. The 26-episode TV series and some of the movies can be viewed on Netflix in the United States.

Evangelion was remade in several movies after the original 1995 TV series premiere. The next is Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, which premieres in Japan on June 27. These cross-promotional ads are also a reason for the upcoming debut. These ads help keep Evangelion fresh in the minds of viewers while also highlighting some Civic features.

These ads could be the beginning of Honda’s collaboration Evangelion. The promo site allows you to sign up for emails about Operation Shin Aoyama, which will take place this summer. We wonder if the automaker will build an Evangelion edition Civic to tie in with the movie’s premiere.

It seems unlikely that the model will be made available in the United States if an Evangelion Civic is ever produced. The series is a huge success in America but it’s not popular enough to warrant the vehicle being offered in the United States.
