It will be available for purchase in the coming year.
The Honda Civic’s family continues to grow rapidly. The regular model in sedan was seen back in April, followed by the hatchback in June . Just recently , the sporty Civic Si joined the Civic range. Recent spy photos indicate that a second derivative of the Civic Si will soon be revealed. It will be on the cheaper side of the spectrum.
They were posted by a Japanese forum user. The images depict a prototype of the new Civic hatchback, which is camouflaged slightly. It is widely believed to have a hybrid powertrain. The entire front fascia of the test car is covered in camouflage, which suggests that there have been modifications to the grille and bumper design. There’s also some camo on the rear bumper.
The window trim is camouflaged, and it could be that the foil is covering a new chrome trim. This is considered standard for hybrid Honda models. It is worth noting that the hybrid Civic appears to have the same diffuser and side skirts as the Sport Touring model.
Unofficial information suggests that the new Civic Hybrid could replace Insight, which is priced at $25,210 in the United States for the model year 2022. According to some reports, the replacement could use the same powertrain. This means that the new hybrid Civic could utilize a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline with an electric motor and a lithium battery pack. The system’s combined output is currently 151 horsepower (111 Kilowatts).
The Insight is almost a tenth-generation Civic sedan, with minor visual tweaks and a longer body. Replacing it with the Civic Hybrid makes perfect sense. Honda may opt to go back to a hybrid body style with its new model, rather than the 2022 Insight’s traditional sedan design.
Although the Insight is no more available in Canada, it appears that it will be available on the US market for one more year. Honda has already confirmed that the Civic Hybrid is coming to the market next year. We expect it will be on sale by the 2023 model year.
