Honda has confirmed that the Civic Hatch will be produced in the United States. Automotive News was recently informed by Takahiro Hachigo, the CEO of Honda. He said that after analyzing production allocation and capacity globally, Honda has concluded that it will produce the Civic in North America em>.
Honda announced earlier this week that it plans to shut down its factory in Swindon. This is the United Kingdom where the current generation Civic Hatch are made. In 2021, the next-generation model will bring about the possible loss of 3,500 jobs. Honda says that this is not due to Britain’s exit from the European Union. The Japanese company claims it is due to “unprecedented global changes in the automotive industry.”
Honda could move production of the Civic Hatch from North America as a result. A new report by Autoblog.com suggests that the future of this vehicle is secure and could be assembled in North America, where it’s very popular. It’s also possible to build the Civic Type R in North America, as its engine has been assembled in Ohio.
Autoblog.com has yet to confirm this, but it claims that Honda has provided a statement confirming the safety of both Type R and Civic Hatch.
Honda may not give the green light for this huge production shift from the U.K to the United States before 2021. The current generation Civic Hatch will be discontinued in this year and Honda’s Swindon plant will close. It is possible that a new generation Japanese hatch will be made in America.
The Honda plant in South England produced the Accord and Jazz as well as the CR-V SUV. These vehicles were removed from the Swindon assembly lines last year. The factory produced more than 160,000 vehicles in 2018, which is about 10% of Britain’s total vehicle production.
