Details about powertrain upgrades are not available.
Tokyo Auto Salon is always an interesting show, with many unique concepts and creations. The 2021 show was forced to go digital due to the coronavirus. However, there are still plenty of surprises. Honda will be there with an all electric drag racer that is based on the Honda E allelectric hatchback. The e-Drag is Honda’s fun drag racer.
Honda will use carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer for the car’s body panels, though currently, only the roof is made from the material. To further reduce vehicle weight, the new panels will have a simplified mounting system. Honda borrowed the e-Drag’s wheels also from the NSX. These are 17-inch units that Honda had to fit slicks onto the drag racer. Honda will also install an upgraded suspension that will help the car get its power to the ground.
Honda stated that it would use the instant torque of the electric motor at the moment of rotation to give the car the characteristics of a rear wheel-drive car. The Honda E’s powertrain is yet to be changed. The road-going model has two power outputs: 136 horsepower (100kilowatts), and 154 horses (113 kW). Peak torque is 232 pound feet (315 Newton-meters). It takes just eight seconds to sprint from 62 miles per an hour to 100 kilometers per hour. However, the lightweight eDrag will take you much faster.
Honda will apply the livery to the vehicle once it is complete. The winner livery will be announced by Honda sometime next month. The e-Drag joins other quirky reveals at this years Auto Salon like the Honda N-Van Mobile Café and many more.
