Is Honda just trying to secure its nameplate or could we see a new Legend here in America?
Acura is opening up its history books again. Acura is creating a new line Type-S vehicles with a brand new twin-turbo V6. New reports also suggest that Acura may revive one of its most iconic names. Honda filed recently for the European trademark “Legend” – Acura has not sold this car since 1995. The trademark was discovered by AutoGuide and is intended for use on: “Vehicles, Apparatus to locomotion on land; Apparatus to locomotion via air; Apparatus to locomotion using water; Parts & fittings of land vehicles; Parts & fittings of air and space vehicles; and Parts & fittings water vehicles.”
Although an Acura space vehicle may sound appealing, you can expect a Legend car, crossover, or other model if the company is revived. The most striking thing about Acura’s filing is the fact that it doesn’t sell cars to Europe. Acura’s operations are almost entirely in North America. Honda still sells the Legend overseas. Could this be a sign of a move to Europe It is unlikely. Companies file trademarks to protect their nameplates (like Legend) as they do with many modern automobile trademarks. This does not necessarily mean that Acura Legend will be redesigned, or that Acura Legend will open up European sales. We like to dream.
There are likely to be a few candidates who could wear the Legend badge if Acura brings back the Legend. Even with a recent facelift, the RLX is outdated and needs to be updated. The Legend badge could be just what you need. The new ZDX will be available, too. Legend is also possible, even though the new crossover coupe won’t use the same three-letter nomenclature. It could be Acura’s new Performance sedan that is destined for Pebble Beach. It doesn’t matter what the outcome, nothing is final. We will just have to wait for the truth.
