Honda’s successor to NSX, Honda HSV-010 GT is the Japanese Super GT Race Series’ GT500 car. More details here.
Honda Racing announced that the Honda HSV-010 GT will replace the NSX in Japan Super GT Race Series. The new model will compete in the GT500 class and uses a 3.4-liter V8 motor, as required by racing series rules.
While the Super GT requires that racing cars be built from production cars, there are exceptions. reported that one exception to the rule is the use a production-ready vehicle, even if it is not yet in production.
It is unlikely that Honda will release a high-end sports car due to the economic downturn. This is particularly true given Honda’s corporate focus to produce more mass-marketable cars and less niche-market vehicles that are only sold in small quantities.
Honda’s latest racer is based upon a recently developed NSX prototype. The Honda HSV-010 GT will make its debut at Suzuka Circuit, south-central Japan’s season opening race weekend on March 20-21.
