Honda Odyssey Will Receive A Mid-Cycle Refresh For 2021

There is not much that can be done to change.

Crossovers and SUVs are the most popular haulers today, but there are still loyal minivan owners. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sold more than 270,000 minivans in the last year. This clearly indicates that there is a market for these boxy vehicles. This market is also very competitive, which may be why Honda has already begun to prepare the Odyssey mid-cycle refresh for 2021.

The prototype of the spy-spied Odyssey wears very little camouflage to hide its front and rear fascias. This mid-cycle refresh will be focused on modernizing the design, just like other mid-cycle updates. Customers can expect a revamped front end with a new grille, lighting elements and other improvements. A new bumper design is expected, too. The rear is more open and subdued. It is time for a bumper redesign. There may also be minor visual enhancements. The controversial lines running down the side seem to continue for at least a few years.

This is a mid-cycle refresh, not a complete redesign. There won’t likely be any significant powertrain upgrades. The minivan’s 3.5-liter Honda V6 should continue to power it, producing 280 horsepower (208kilowatts) as well as 262 pound-feet (355 Newton meters) of torque. The current 10-speed automatic transmission should continue to transmit power. Although rumors persist about a hybrid, there is no evidence to support such rumours.

It is easy to forget that Honda sold over 100,000 Odyssey minivans last yea, just behind FCA and the Chrysler Pacifica. The Toyota Sienna, and the Kia Sedona are also competitors. However, nobody claimed it to be a crowded segment. The 2021 Honda Odyssey will be available by next summer, and should go on sale before 2021. The new design will not be too different from the current one.
