The Honda CR-V remains the most popular Honda sedan, but there are some ruses among the sedans.
American Honda released its May YTD sales figures, which showed a dramatic decline in Japanese automaker’s sales performance. American Honda saw a 36% decline in sales between January and May 2022 with 435,159 units. This is compared to last year. These numbers include Honda and Acura sales in the US.
American Honda sold just 75,000 vehicles in May, a significant drop from the 176.815 units sold May 2021. According to American Honda, supply shortages are the reason for this decline in sales as inventories have fallen to historic lows.
Despite the arrival of the next generation Honda CRV in this year’s lineup, the crossover SUV is still the best-selling model in the range, with over 17,000 sales in May alone and more than 93,000 YTD.
The 11,250 units of HR-V were also sold in May 2022, despite the fact the new version will go on sale June 7.
There’s an interesting ruse going on among Honda sedans. The Civic is more popular than the Accord, but the report revealed that the compact has outsold it in May – 11,066 units vs. 8,147.
Honda claims that more than half of all Civic and CR-V sales were pre-sold prior to reaching Honda dealer lots.
The Acura side saw SUVs outselling sedans. American Honda is still bullish, however, as it begins selling the new Integra in June 2022. According to Acura, Integra’s presales are strong and have created positive energy among Acura dealers.
Honda cars are no different, as new models have already been slated for launch this year. It is yet to be seen if the company can overcome its inventory slump which has hampered its sales numbers.
