Honda wants their hospital to be less stressful
Children and their families can find hospitals scary. Honda’s latest creation aims to alleviate some of that fear. Shogo is an all-electric, electric ride-on vehicle from Honda. It’s intended to be a positive experience for children. Children’s Health Orange County, California has it in service. It gives kids an alternative to having to push wheelchairs to all their appointments and tests.
Honda created the Shogo to be easy for children by omitting doors and roofs. The central seating position has the stop-and go function and is easily accessible from the steering wheel. The speed can reach speeds of up to 5 mph or slow down to a crawl of 1 mph, but it is controlled by a caregiver or nurse. It has a sleek design that is functional. There’s a push bar at its back with an IV pole holder, and space to store various pumps and equipment. A push bar allows an adult to push a EV.
Randall Smock is a senior exterior design of American Honda Motor vehicles. He stated that Shogo was made to meet the needs of children. He was also a key part of Shogo’s design and testing.
Shogo allows children to bring along their favorite toys or stuffed animals in the front bucket. They can also personalize it with a personalized license plate at back. It has cup holders, a horn that makes different sounds and easy-cleanable surfaces all over. This is not Honda’s first child-oriented motorcycle.
Hundy Liu, American Honda’s manager of national automobile marketing, said that it was truly rewarding to see the smiles on young patients’ faces when Shogo takes them behind the wheel.
