It looks like Passport will be the first to get it.
Honda states that the TrailSport models will have more aggressive tires, increased ground clearance, a retuned suspension for better off-road driving, and underbody protection. The front and rear stylings have been updated, as well as more body cladding. Orange stitching is added to the cabin, along with all-weather floor mats.
The teaser image of Honda’s model is only from the rear. It shows the vehicle as it kicks up dirt. It’s a Passport, as you can see by the taillights (see comparison below). These products are designed to increase off-road toughness and not compromise on road ability, according to the automaker.
American Honda’s Executive Vice President for National Operations, Dave Gardner, stated that “TrailSport is the next chapter of our rugged direction” and would add unique styling to existing light trucks to appeal to buyers looking for adventure.
TrailSport’s logo is orange and features a mountain representation above the letters. The combination of sharp angles and curves suggests rock climbing and off-road trails.
Honda has a strong off-road heritage in dirt bikes, ATVs and ATVs but this does not extend to its automobiles. It will be fascinating to see how Honda positions the Trailsport vehicles in order to attract customers to these rugged Hondas, with so much competition in this market.
