Automaker claims new engine family will offer best-in class fuel efficiency and performance.
Honda announced a new line of engines, dubbed “Earth Dreams Technology”, that Honda believes will offer best-in class fuel efficiency and performance.
This engine family will include engines ranging from 660cc to 1.3 liter to 1.5 liter to 1.8 liter to 2.0 liter and 3.5 liters of displacement.
To improve fuel efficiency, all four-cylinder units are equipped with DOHC (double-cams) and direct injection technology. Direct-injection will be available for the 3.5-liter V6. It will produce 310 horsepower (231 kW/314 PS) and 265lb-ft (359 Nm).
Honda will reduce its 2.2-liter diesel engine to a 1.6-liter unit. This should produce the same output as the high-efficiency turbocharger. The mechanicals are also less frictional.
Other systems will be available to complement the Earth Dreams Technology engine family.
Honda promises that the new CVT transmissions will still be fun for drivers in all three sizes of mini, compact and mid-size cars.
A hybrid electric SH-AWD system is also being developed. It features two electric motors mounted on the rear axle. This allows for better fuel economy and AWD comfort.
