Loud pipes can save lives.
The Audi R8 is still one of the most iconic “analog” supercars on the planet. The Ingolstadt machine is an incredible performance car that’s both fast and easy to drive. It has a naturally aspirated V10 engine and no hybrid assistance. With a little tuning help, the R8 could become a hypercar hunter at circuits such as the Nurburgring.
We found a new YouTube video that takes us to the “Ring” where Misha Charoudin, vlogger, hops aboard a modified R8 RWS. This means the car is driven by its rear wheels only. This car is modified from a stock one and includes modifications to the engine, exhaust system and suspension. There are a few tunes for the V10 engine, with various settings for the exhaust tone or power output.
This is a huge mapping difference and these two laps give us a good idea of the Audi’s capabilities. The driver used a conservative mapping to reach 106 mph (170 km/h) at the Bilstein Bridge. This mapping makes the exhaust sound less aggressive, but it is still noticeable more than the factory.
The driver switches to the more aggressive engine tune in the second lap. This unleashes 700 horsepower (515 kilowatts), and produces a very unpleasant exhaust note. In the same section, the car hits 124 mph (200 km/h). This is due to the fact that the V10 engine runs at a much more powerful tune and E85 fuel.
This video shows us how powerful and fun the R8 can be, particularly when tuned. It’s difficult for the supercar, even with a lot of traffic, to reach its full potential or set a new track record. However, it seems like a lot of fun behind the wheel.
