A V12 is no longer necessary.
There’s (finally!) There’s a new BMW 8 Series available on the market, and it’s amazing. This is the most recent and best coupe of the Bavarian brand. It will soon be available in convertible form. The M8 will join it in the near future. A V12 version has been ruled out. However, a more powerful variant could be in development.
Our friends at BMW blog claim that the automaker has a competition package in place for the M8. Although the information isn’t yet official, one of our readers attended a closed BMW meeting in Paris where VIP customers were provided with more details about future models. This meeting apparently saw the confirmation of an M8 competition.
Although not much information is available about the car, our source says it will come standard with carbon ceramic brakes as well as a carbon fiber exterior package. The 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 will provide power to the “regular”, but it will be massaged to produce somewhere around 620 horsepower (462 megawatts).
The M850ixDrive is the most powerful and fastest version of the 8 Series. It uses the same 4.4-liter eight cylinder unit, but it’s tuned to be more efficient. It is capable of propelling the large coupe from standstill to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in a mere 3.6 seconds. The M8 Competition and M8 Competition will likely provide a significant power boost, which could result in a drop in sprint time of around a few tenths.
The report states that the Competition package will be available shortly after the M8’s launch next year. It is unlikely that anyone will miss the V12 engine underneath the hood if all this happens.
