This engine begs for a lightweight coupe.
AMG’s M139 engine is hand-assembled. Mercedes was gracious enough to film a video of the engine. It will be used to equip the next generation “45” cars. This will include new arrivals like the A45 Sedan, GLB45 and CLA45 Shooting Brake.
The M139 will be available in two-tier offerings, with the flagship S version and the base model. This engine is the world’s most powerful four cylinder engine. The M139 engine produces 382 horsepower and 354 lbft (480 Nm) when used in its standard configuration, and a powerful 416 HP and 369 Lb-ft (369 Nm) when it is used in the S version.
These Cars Will Help You Find It:
The M139 is more powerful than the Audi Sport’s 2.5-liter inline five, which is rated at 400 hp (354 lbft) and the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR, which has 440 hp (412 lbft) (559 Nm). This car is not considered a regular production vehicle as only 40 were made and all of them were sold in the U.K
Referring to the AMG engine, it would power a coupe in an ideal world. This would be a lighter and more exciting option to the 45-inch four-door models. Although a A-Class Coupe, like the one shown above, would be nice, it is just wishful thinking. Mercedes did have a similar thought back in 2000 with the Vision SLA, a small front-wheel-drive-based roadster concept with only two seats.
In 2014, rumors about a sub-SLK model in the same spirit of the SLA surfaced. But nothing ever happened. An SLA Coupe would add the finishing touch to the company’s compact car lineup. AMG is expected to offer 400+ horsepower in several FWD-based models.
