Is the American brute capable of doing it?
The AMG G63 is the first to attempt to dethrone H1. This worthy contender packs 585 horsepower and 627 pound feet of torque from its 4.0-liter twin turbo V8. The car is lighter at 5,000 pounds (2.25 tons), which is a slight disadvantage. A win for the Merc? The title says it all. The G63 had to call in some friends to have any chance of defeating H1.
A Suzuki Jimny, which can pull 2,200 pounds (1.1 tonnes) more than the competition, would be a great choice. Yes, the 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 101 horses and 96 pound feet of torque did some. As if all that weren’t enough, the non-American side was also represented by the Mitsubishi L200 pickup, which added 3,800 pounds (1.9 tonnes), 140 horsepower and 295 poundfeet torque. The three cars combined were heavier than the H1, and also had more horsepower and torque. It was also easier to pull the cars with 12 wheels, right? Check out the video to find out.
