Lamborghini, what are you doing?
Since Lamborghini’s Huracan Super Trofeo Omlogata was revealed, we’ve wondered if the Sant’Agata Bolognese folks would attempt to break the Nurburgring record. The Huracan Performante was once Lord of the Ring, but the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series holds the title for fastest street-legal production car at Nordschleife.
It’s happening! It’s happening. At the German track, a prototype of the Huracan STO has been spotted. The spy video’s first section is more interesting than the high-speed action. CarSpyMedia filmed Lamborghini’s crew preparing the V10 supercar mid-engined for the run. We’ve also noticed an interesting detail.
A gas can is marked with “benzina Speciale,” which in Italian means “special gasoline”. Panta branding is on the gas can, which is a racing fuel company. It clearly states “racing fuel” beneath the company name. Is this a sign that Lamborghini uses track-only fuel in order to set a new road-going record? This would be a very unfair assumption, so we are giving the company the benefit-of-the-doubt as it might have an innocent explanation.
Okay, maybe the Huracan STO’s gasoline tank doesn’t have the regular gasoline that the European side Motor1.com uses in its cars. But if Lamborghini is to set a legitimate record it must follow the rules. Today’s official “time attack” session is underway, so we can be sure that Lamborghini will continue to show its best. AMG is expected to be present with the Black Series to help improve its record of 6:43.61.
