Hybrids Possible for Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat

Hybrids Possible for Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat
FCA wants to be repositioned as a leader in electrification.

Dodge is synonymous with high-output cars designed to amaze anyone. The Challenger has a Hellcat version with 707 horsepower (527 KiloWatts). The SRT Demon can produce up to 840 horsepower (626 kW) if you have the correct key fob.

There’s also the Charger, a four-door version of the Hellcat, that produces the same power. The new Charger is also available.

Micky Bly, FCA’s global chief of powertrains, believes that people want more than what’s currently available.

Bly spoke positively about FCA’s future in electrification during a conversation with The Detroit Bureau . This includes the Charger and Challenger namesplates. Although he didn’t confirm that the cars would have electrified powertrains, he said that it “has a role.”

The Detroit Bureau reported that FCA insiders suggested that future Hellcat models could be equipped with a mild hybrid system. This would increase torque by around 130 lb/ft while weighing in at less than 100 lbs. It is a small price to pay for more pull and better performance in a drag racing.

Because people just can’t get enough horsepower:

Bly, as mentioned, was optimistic about FCA’s electrification. The powertrain boss plans to position the brand as one the leaders in electrification within the next 12-18 months. These are big words considering FCA does not have an electric vehicle of high volume in its lineup at the moment.

It would be interesting to find out if these words mean something after the time frame mentioned. This is something everyone should keep an eye on.
